GED® Test Preparation Program

Prepare for the GED® test! This program prepares adult learners to pass the four-part, computer-based GED exam to earn a State of Connecticut diploma. Students receive academic instruction in addition to the basic computer skills needed for the exam.

Stamford Adult Education offers this program to residents of Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Weston, Westport and Wilton. Classes are offered in the morning and in the evening. The program consists of classroom and computer-assisted instruction.

Placement

When you register for classes, a placement test will be administered. Based on the results, you will be assigned to an appropriate instructional level. A student must earn a score of 236 or higher in our placement test to be placed in GED classes. Otherwise, students will be placed in Adult Basic Education courses in reading, writing, and math until they achieve the scores required for the GED preparation course.

Eligibility

To be able to register for the GED preparation classes or the official GED exam, applicants must be a resident of Connecticut, be at least 17 years old, officially withdrawn from school for at least six months and must submit a withdrawal form with a parent or guardian's signature. Individuals who are 18 years of age may submit, in lieu of a withdrawal form, a letter from their last high school indicating that the class with which they entered ninth grade (or would have entered, if never enrolled in high school) has already graduated.

All applicants who want to register for the Official State GED exam must have a photo ID, provide proof of address, and are required to pass the four practice tests at GED.com. There is a $13 fee if they are 21 years of age or older. Those who pass the exam are awarded a Connecticut State High School Diploma. Special accommodations for the GED® exam are available for individuals with documented disabilities.

GED Practice Tests

Students can create an account at GED.com to answer practice questions on different subjects, get feedback, and take the official GED® Ready practice tests!
