English as a Second Language

Adult Education English as a Second Language classes teach people who are new to our country or who have not yet learned English to understand, speak, read and write the language. Skills used in daily life are emphasized.

Classes are taught at the basic, beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. Students are given an appraisal test at registration (two hours required) and are placed in an appropriate section. Pre/post tests are administered at the beginning and end of each semester to measure the mastery of skills taught.

Classes are offered in the morning and evening. Morning classes may include the use of computers.

There is no charge to residents of Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Weston, Westport and Wilton.
