Geocaching Adventure 043
Geocaching is a modern treasure-hunting activity, with over 5 million participants in over 200 countries on all 7 continents, that uses coded messages to figure out the GPS coordinates of hidden caches. The program will start indoors so everyone can use Wi-Fi to create an account and download the app if necessary. There will be a brief PowerPoint on various aspects of geocaching around the world followed by a group activity to figure out the coordinates of the caches hidden at the Bartlett Arboretum: GC1ANMX High Ridge Cache and the oldest geocache in CT GCE4 another Brick in the Wall. Participants will go on a geocaching adventure along the Bartlett trails, either using personal GPS devices or their smartphones to find 2 hidden treasures while learning about the natural environment. Materials: Participants should bring a pencil, a fun small trinket or two (could be anything: toy car, ring, unique coin, etc.), weather appropriate clothing, and a charged smartphone.
