PREPARE FOR THE GED® TEST

This program prepares adult learners to pass the four-part, computer based GED® exam to earn a State of Connecticut diploma.  Students receive academic instruction in addition to the basic computer skills needed for the exam.  When you register for classes, a placement test will be administered.  Based on the results, you will be assigned to an appropriate instructional level.  A student must earn a score of 236 or higher in our placement test to be placed in GED®  classes.  Otherwise, students will be placed in Adult Basic Education courses in reading, writing, and math until they achieve the scores required for the GED® preparation course.

To be able to register for the GED preparation classes or GED official exam, applicants must be a resident of Connecticut, be at least 17 years old, officially withdrawn from school for at least six months and must submit a withdrawal form with a parent or guardian's signature.  Individuals who are 18 years of age may submit, in lieu of a withdrawal form, a letter from their last high school indicating that the class with which they entered ninth grade (or would have entered in never enrolled in high school) has already graduated.  Students can create an account at GED.COM to take the official GED® Ready practice tests, and complete the GED® registration process in person at Old Town Hall, 175 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT.

All applicants who want to register for the Official State GED exam must have a photo ID, provide proof of address, and are required to pass the four practice tests at GED.com.  There is a $13 fee if they are 21 years of age or older. Those who pass the exam are awarded a Connecticut State High School Diploma. Special accommodations for the GED® exam are available for individuals with documented disabilities.

Stamford Adult Education offers a program to prepare residents of Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Weston, Westport and Wilton for the GED® exam.

Classes are offered in the morning and in the evening.  The program consists of classroom and computer-assisted instruction.

Accommodations for the GED® test are available for qualified individuals with a disability. For more information, contact us @ 203 977 8823. You may also contact Sabrina Mancini at the Connecticut State Department of Education at (860) 807-2110.

We will be able to to assist the students with any barriers that might prevent them from being successful in the program. We can be reached at 203 977-4941.
