The Basics of Special Education and Transition Planning 063 CourseCatalog/images/new.gif

Special Education:  This class is intended for parents of students with disabilities who desire to become more knowledgeable about the educational process for their children.  This course will cover information concerning individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Planning and Placement Team (PPT) process, and Individualized Educational Planning (IEP).  This course will assist you in navigating the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) process, understaning your child's IEP or 504 plans, as well as learning about the various levels of support your child is eligible to receive.

Transitions:  This course will assist parents in understanding the transition process for middle and high school special education students.  Topics and content will assist parents to proactively prepare their child's transition to post-secondard education/training, employment, and independent living skills upon exit from the public school system.  Transition assessments, person-centered planning, disabilities services and adult agency supports will be discussed.
