Pet Bereavement Support Group 068 CourseCatalog/images/new.gif

The strong bond between humans and their animal companions is a very deep one.  When we lose, or are anticipating the loss of our beloved pet, the feelings of grief and sorrow are very real.  Psychologists are just beginning to recognize that we go through the same stages of grief, sometimes even more intensely, when we lose a pet, than when we lose a human family member or friend.  Unfortunately society has been very slow to recognize the loss of a beloved pet as a significant one, and it is often misunderstood.  The goal of this group is to create a safe, nonjudgemental atmosphere for others to work through their feelings of sorrow and loss, so that they can heal and begin to transform their feelings of sadness into happy and loving memories of their pet that they could cherish in their hearts forever.  This group is for anyone who has lost a beloved, "non-human" family member, or who are anticipating such a loss in the near future and is seeking meaningful support.  Members can feel free to bring in their loved (fur, feathered, or scaled) "babies" so that the memories of their pets will be symbolically included, thus never forgotten.
