The Adult High School Credit Diploma is the same as a diploma awarded by any other Connecticut public high school.  The requirements for graduation are equivalent. Credits are awarded through a prescribed plan, which requires specific academic and elective subjects. These credits are awarded through classroom instruction and online learning. Previously-earned high school credits are accepted. A maximum of 10 credits are accepted from a foreign transcript (excluding English, American History and Civics). Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by the Center for Educational Documentation (applications will be provided at registration). Credits are also awarded for work experiences, professional licenses, volunteering and military service.

As of September 1, 2021 Adult learners must earn at least 25 credits in order to receive an Adult High School Diploma awarded by the Stamford Public Schools. Students must attend the minimum of 48 hours in each subject.  The required credits are:

This program is free for residents of Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Westport, Weston and Wilton who are at least 17 years of age and who have officially withdrawn from school. Students who are 17 must bring a withdrawal form signed by a parent or guardian within 48 hours of the withdrawal.

At registration students take a reading and math appraisal test. This process takes approximately two hours. If a student's CASAS score indicates that they are not ready for high school work, they will be referred to Adult Basic Education or English as a Second Language classes.

If possible, students should bring their transcripts to registration.  Each student enrolled works with a certified guidance counselor who reviews the course of study which will meet his/her individual needs and interests as well as fulfill the requirements for graduation.
